JACOB’S Bakery and Pho Tam Restaurant triumphed over their respective opponents to secure their fifth win in the Alpha Kappa Rho 1st Semi-Open Invitational Basketball League 2025 at the TSL Sports Complex on Sunday.

Jacob’s Bakery had a tough battle against the 69ers but overcame a first-half deficit for the upset victory, 97-88.

The 69ers controlled the first half, thanks to the efforts of Ar-Jay Giron, Deshawn Adelbai, and Mabz Tacuban. The trio’s all-around performance was a constant offensive threat, scoring from beyond the arc, within the perimeter, and under the rim to build a double-digit lead within the first 10 minutes.

Despite a rough start, Jacob’s Bakery eventually found its groove. Andrew Sy’s back-to-back buckets provided the spark they needed, igniting the rest of the team. Jerald Rivera followed with two consecutive triples, while Arjhay Singca punished defenders in the paint, bringing them back within single digits at 52-45.

The 69ers fought to maintain their lead in the second half but lost their grip under Jacob’s Bakery’s relentless defensive pressure. Though they forced Jacob’s Bakery into early foul trouble and earned easy points at the free-throw line, fatigue ultimately diminished their chances.

Jacob’s Bakery seized the opportunity to ignite a late-game comeback. Singca caught fire, leading the charge with 14 points, while teammates Jhay Jhay Gatbonton and Dan Fernando provided key offensive support to secure the 97-88 victory over the 69er.

Joining the winner’s circle was Pho Tam Restaurant, which also bagged their fifth win of the season by trouncing Eagles/Kuya, 90-52.

Kenny Laquian and Kevin Razon were the scoring leaders, contributing 15 points each.
