Medicaid provides continuous coverage during disaster, public health emergency

(CMA) — The Commonwealth Medicaid Agency announces the implementation of temporary eligibility and enrollment flexibilities to ensure that Medicaid beneficiaries and providers continue to receive critical support during the ongoing public health emergency or PHE and disaster conditions in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

CMA is actively working to protect access to care and minimize disruptions by maintaining continuous Medicaid coverage for eligible individuals. These actions are designed to ensure that beneficiaries do not experience gaps in coverage and that providers can continue delivering medically necessary services without interruption.

Under this directive, individuals with pending redeterminations submitted between January 1 and March 31, 2026 will remain eligible for Medicaid benefits throughout the duration of the PHE. Additionally, beneficiaries whose coverage is scheduled to expire during the PHE or from April 1, 2026 on will receive automatic extensions, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare services.

CMA will also implement verification flexibilities, allowing additional time for individuals to submit required documentation due to disaster-related challenges. These measures align with federal regulations and are intended to reduce administrative burden while prioritizing the health and well-being of the community.

While these temporary provisions are in place, CMA will continue to uphold program integrity standards. Full eligibility reviews will resume once normal operations are restored.

The Agency remains committed to supporting both beneficiaries and healthcare providers during this challenging time and will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure continuity of care and service delivery.

For more information or details you can visit the CMA’s website at www.cnmimedicaid.org or its social media page.  You can also contact the CMA by emailing [email protected] or by calling (670) 664-4880.  The Eligibility and Enrollment Section, along with the Claims Section have moved to the 4th floor of the Horiguch Building and is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
