King-Hinds: CNMI to pursue ‘all’ federal aid, labor options after Sinlaku

DELEGATE Kimberlyn King-Hinds said the CNMI will pursue “all of it” — from federal disaster aid to labor flexibility — after Super Typhoon Sinlaku caused widespread destruction across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

She emphasized that the CNMI’s economic condition leaves it unable to shoulder recovery costs alone.

“We are going to ask for all of it,” she said, “every single avenue to ensure the CNMI has an adequate labor supply to begin this recovery.”

King-Hinds said early estimates suggest hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, possibly approaching $1 billion, citing impacts to the Tinian power plant, the Rota port, and major damage at Saipan International Airport.

She praised the federal response, noting that the Trump administration and FEMA were “incredibly responsive” and mobilized even before the storm hit.
