Dear Saipan community leaders and recovery teams

YOU are to be commended for the incredible strength, unity, and resilience you have shown in the wake of the recent storm. Super Typhoon Sinlaku wreaked havoc on our peaceful lifestyle, slamming our homes, wiping out electricity and water. This force of nature sought to destroy us, but our resolve to rebuild and help one another stays strong, a testament to our beautiful, enduring culture of inafa’maolek.

Our leaders, first responders, and recovery crews work tirelessly to restore power, water, and essential services. We are thankful for troops from the 249th Engineer Battalion, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for their work supplying emergency power. They quickly brought power to our hospital and rapidly installed generators to return running water and electricity to devastated parts of the island.

The road to recovery is never easy, but the way you have all rallied together reminds us that Saipan remains strong. Thank you for your continued patience, hard work, and compassion. Together, you are not just rebuilding our infrastructure; you are reinforcing the heart of this island.

With deepest respect and gratitude,
