(MVA) — Why just whizz through a marathon when you can be wacky for a chance to win awesome prizes?
Participants in the Saipan Marathon 2025 Wacky Awards on March 8, 2025, in The Marianas will have a chance to win sporting goods gift certificates sponsored by The Athlete’s Foot, Boarderline, and All-Star Sporting Goods.
Saipan Marathon — a certified measured course by World Athletics in cooperation with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races — is offering awards for Best Costume, Most Awesome Shoes, Ugliest Shoes, Shortest Shorts, and Craziest Hair.
“Once again, we’re bringing back the Wacky Awards to add spirit to Saipan Marathon 2025,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion. “It’s another way for runners to showcase their wit, whimsy, and creativity, so we invite everyone to have fun with the categories and show us your best wacky! Special thanks to the Joeten Group of Companies for their support!”
Judging will take place at the 5K turnaround.
Saipan Marathon is organized by MVA and Northern Marianas Athletics and is sanctioned under the Northern Marianas Athletics rules and regulations. Skechers is the Exclusive Title Sponsor of the race. Platinum Sponsor is Coca-Cola/Powerade/Subway/Foremost; Gold Sponsors are Bridge Capital, LLC and United Airlines; and Silver Sponsor is Enterprise Rent-A-Car. In-kind contributors are Dave Electronics, All-star Sporting Goods/Boarderline/The Athlete’s Foot, and Office of the Mayor of Saipan.
Over 500 runners have registered for either the full marathon, half-marathon, 10K or 5K, which will all begin and end at American Memorial Park in downtown Garapan.
Registration is open at www.raceroster.com and is $110 for the full marathon, $100 for the half marathon, and $90 for the 10K and 5K.
For CNMI residents and U.S. military personnel, the rate is $100 for the full marathon, $90 for the half marathon, and $80 for the 10K and 5K.
With valid photo ID, youth ages 18 or younger on March 5, 2025, may register for 10K or 5K for $65. Full marathon participants must be age 16 or older. Half marathon participants must be age 14 or older. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. ChST on March 5, 2025.
Cash prizes will be awarded for top finishers and by age division in the marathon. Participants will receive a limited edition official Saipan Marathon T-shirt, official Saipan Marathon medal, and certificate of completion.
