An admirable decision

KUDOS to Dr. Lawrence Camacho on his decision to sever his employment with the CNMI Board of Education in June 2026 following his decision to seek election as Governor of the CNMI.

I do not know Dr. Camacho and have no “skin in the game” regarding who will serve as the next Governor.

However, his decision is very admirable in that, by resigning, he will avoid any suspicions regarding Hatch Act type applicable violations of federal and CNMI laws which preclude government officials from threatening employees with removal from office for supporting rivals, campaigning during working hours, using government vehicles, etc.

By doing so, he is setting a good example that, hopefully, other potential candidates, similarly situated, will follow.

Wishing all the residents of the CNMI best wishes and successful recovery from the damage caused by the recent Super Typhoon.

Respectfully submitted,
