Leo Saures sentenced to time served, probation for domestic violence charge

LEO L. Saures, 60, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo on Thursday to one year of imprisonment, with all but 30 days suspended. Saures was also given credit for 42 days of time served served, meaning he will not have to spend any additional time in prison.

Saures, represented by Assistant Public Defender Karie Comstock, pled guilty to assault and battery (domestic violence) on Feb. 19. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Frances T. Demapan.

Initially, Saures was charged with strangulation, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. He was accused of strangling his wife after an argument over money and eviction from their apartment in January.

In his judgment of conviction and commitment order, Judge Govendo also ordered Saures pay a fine and court costs in the amount of $125.

Moreover, Saures was placed on supervised probation beginning Feb. 19.

During his probationary period, Saures is prohibited from striking, beating, wounding, or causing bodily harm to his wife, and from consuming alcohol, marijuana, or any other illegal substances. He is also required to submit to random drug testing of his blood, breath, or urine whenever requested by the Office of Adult Probation.
