$1.5M in casino fees allocated to health center, community projects

GOVERNOR David M. Apatang has signed House Local Bill 24-52, appropriating a total of $1.5 million in exclusive casino license fee collections for various programs and community projects on Saipan.

Authored by Rep. John Paul P. Sablan, H.L.B. 24-52 is now Saipan Local Law 24-27. The funds come from the remaining balance of the $9.5 million exclusive casino license fee collected from Imperial Pacific International in 2018.

• S.L.L. 24-27 allocates the gambling revenue as follows:

• $130,000 to Joeten-Kiyu Public Library for solar power installation for the parking lot, landscaping, and maintenance

• $25,000 to the Miss NMI Asia-Pacific International Organization for the Female and International Representation Initiative

• $100,000 to the Substance Abuse, Addiction and Rehabilitation for CNMI Youth and Family Community Outreach Partnership Program, Susupe Social Hall building, and basketball court renovation

• $40,000 to the KKMP Foundation for grant writing services specifically for a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant

• $5,000 to the Paire Football Club

$1.2 million for the Kagman Community Health Center, doing business as Island Community Health, provided that $550,000 shall be reserved for the architectural and engineering design of the new Kagman Access Road (Route 34)
