THE Senate on Friday unanimously confirmed the nomination of Bridge Capital Vice President Bart A. Jackson to the Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors.

All eight senators present voted for the confirmation of Jackson, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios’ nominee to fill the seat vacated by former CPA board chairman Jose C. Ayuyu, who resigned last year.

The governor attended the Senate session.

The chair of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, reported that they had examined all the pertinent documents related to the appointment of Jackson. He said no written or oral testimony was submitted in opposition to Jackson’s nomination.

Cruz said during a public hearing in the Senate chamber, the committee raised issues and concerns, and provided recommendations to the appointee.

Based on Jackson’s overall credentials, experiences, testimonies and all the relevant issues considered, Cruz said his committee respectfully recommended the nominee’s confirmation.

Aside from Cruz, the other senators present in the session were Senate President Dennis C. Mendiola, Senate Vice President Karl King-Nabors, Senate Floor Leader Donald Manglona, Sen. Corina Magofna, Sen. Ronnie Calvo, Sen. Celina Babauta and Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider. Sen. Manny Gregory Castro was excused.

A longtime resident of the Marianas, Jackson is a former general manager of PIC Saipan and a previous board member of the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands. On Guam, he sat on the board of the Guam Visitors Bureau and served as chair of the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association.
