I WRITE to you today regarding the recent executive orders issued by President Trump and their implications for our islands, particularly in relation to federal funding, government grants, and federally funded employees. While these executive orders aim to address national priorities such as reducing wasteful spending, eliminating duplication, and improving the allocation of resources, they also have a significant impact on our local communities, economies, and government operations.
In both the CNMI and Guam, federal funding plays a critical role in supporting a wide range of programs and services that directly benefit our residents. From healthcare, education, and infrastructure development to environmental protection and social services, these programs are essential to our daily lives and long-term prosperity. Government grants and federally funded positions have been key to strengthening our local agencies and enhancing the quality of life for our people.
It is important that we stay informed and engaged as these executive orders take effect. Our leaders and stakeholders — Republicans and Democrats alike — will continue to advocate for the best interests of our islands, ensuring that our concerns are heard at the federal level. We must raise our voices and work together to protect essential programs and safeguard the stability of our public services.
I encourage all residents to stay updated on these developments and actively participate in ongoing discussions. As new information emerges, we must collaborate with federal partners to navigate these changes and minimize their impact on our communities. It is equally important that we, as individuals, plan and prepare for any situation that may arise.
Together, we will adapt to these evolving circumstances and find solutions that reflect the strength, resilience, and unity of our islands.
Thank you and Si Yu’us Ma’åse for your attention as we move forward.
Sincerely,
FRANK MANGLONA
