(Commonwealth Utilities Corporation) — Dye tests and smoke tests will be conducted in Chalan Kanoa (Chalan Tun Joaquin Doi, Crispina St., Anita Ave., Casilda St., Isidoro Ave., Francisco St., Elphidia St., Gregorio Ave., Monica St., Dolores St., Chalan Kanoa Dr., Carmen Ave., Texas Rd., Dionicio Ave., Delgadina St., Barbara Ave., and Brigada St.) from Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, to Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The purpose of these tests is to identify leaks, breaks, and other connections in CUC’s sewer system.
About the dye test
A dye test is a sewer inspection method whereby nontoxic dye is introduced into the toilets and cleanouts of participating customers. CUC’s wastewater operators will monitor sewer lines for any signs of presence from the dye. If the dye appears in CUC’s sewer lines within the customer’s area, the customer will then be informed of their connection, and the data will be sent to the billing department for proper billing.
Customers should be expecting a visit from CUC’s wastewater operators to request for access before performing the dye test.
About the smoke test
A smoke test is a sewer inspection method whereby nontoxic smoke is forced into sewer system access points. The smoke travels through all connected pipes in the sewer system, indicating pipe leaks, breached utility holes, cracks, uncapped lines, and other defects. Testers can also locate unknown pipe sections, such as cleanouts, downspouts, and sump pumps.
The smoke is nontoxic, nonhazardous, and is manufactured specifically for this purpose. It leaves no residue or stains and has no effects on plants or animals. The smoke is not expected to enter your home; however, if it does, it will have a distinct odor and should clear out within a few minutes with proper ventilation. Please be advised that all plumbing fixture drain traps must be filled with water before the test.
To ensure the safety of CUC crew, certain roadways will be closed during the testing period to allow wastewater operators to access the manholes. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and exercise caution while driving in the area or take alternative routes.
CUC appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding in helping identify customer connections. “We aim to conduct these tests efficiently while minimizing disruption to customers’ daily activities. By proactively engaging in this testing, CUC reaffirms its commitment to providing reliable wastewater services for the community.”
