THE PSS-NMIVA Interscholastic Volleyball League SY24-25 boys middle school division season kicked off with an exciting match in which Francisco M. Sablan Middle School emerged victorious over Dandan Middle School at the Marianas High School gym on Tuesday.
The first set was filled with several lead exchanges with both teams vying for control.
FMS utilized all three touches, with Aiden Gimed, Jean Paul Reyes, and Jairus Pangelinan at the frontline, finishing with strong spikes to build a comfortable lead.
However, DMS’ Christian Bermiso, Kunni Cepeda, and Dre Delos Reyes took turns catching defenders off guard, pulling off a 6-0 rally as the set went past the game point threshold of 21.
However, DMS failed to minimize their mistakes, which allowed FMS to run away with the first set victory, 25-24.
FMS’ morale was dampened in the second set as DMS returned to the court with more focus and better communication. This time, they focused on defense, covering each other’s backs with nearly impossible saves and spike finishes to overwhelm FMS, 21-14.
In the third and final set, both teams went all out, but toward the end, it was FMS that held the upper hand. Although DMS managed to gradually close the gap and even the score, 14-14, FMS’ Pangelinan stepped up during crunch time with well-timed spikes to gain the two points needed to secure the set as well as the match, 16-14.
Other games
Joining the winner’s circle were Tanapag Middle School, which outplayed Saipan Community School, 21-4, 21-17; Saipan International School, which bested Hopwood Middle School, 21-17, 21-13; and Grace Christian Academy, which outlasted Chacha Ocean View Middle School, 22-20, 21-17.
