CARL Camacho and Michael Tudela are accused of breaking into a house on Chalan Kanoa Drive and stealing a washer, a dryer, a refrigerator, a split-type air conditioner, and other items.
Camacho, 40, and Tudela, 44, were both charged with burglary and theft. They appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho for a bail hearing on Friday morning.
Judge Camacho maintained the $15,000 cash bail imposed on the defendants and remanded them to the custody of Corrections after the hearing.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the arrest warrants for the defendants stemmed from a burglary and theft incident reported to DPS on Dec. 15, 2024.
“A residence in Chalan Kanoa along Chalan Kanoa Drive was burglarized and property, such as a washer and dryer, refrigerator, split type air-conditioner, mountain bikes, and tires were stolen. Investigation led to the identification of Camacho and Tudela being responsible for the incident,” DPS stated.
DPS said it commends the investigative efforts of Patrol Shift “B” led by Police Lt. Catherine Pangelinan.
Tudela was arrested at a residence in Chalan Kanoa on Jan. 16, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. while Camacho was arrested at his residence in Chalan Kanoa at 6:17 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2025.
According to the complaint, Camacho told the police that “a week ago … after midnight while he was asleep, Tudela brought all the stolen items to their [the defendants’] house.”
Asked how Tudela carried all the big items by himself, Camacho said Tudela used a dolly.
On Jan. 13, 2025, Tudela was arrested in a separate theft case, and was booked and detained at Corrections.
DPS stated that when he was told that Camacho had accused Tudela of “stealing all the items inside [the Chalan Kanoa] residence,” and after advising him of his Miranda rights, Tudela said, “If you really want to know what happened I will show you.”
DPS said Tudela showed police investigators where Camacho broke the middle sliding window of the house by using a rock wrapped with a cloth. He said Camacho entered the broken window and opened the door for him and they took the new dryer that was still in a box, a laundry machine, a split-type air conditioning unit, a refrigerator, two bicycles and a large blue raft.
Tudela also told investigators that he had just recently moved into Camacho’s house, and that it was Camacho’s idea to “burglarize and steal the stuff inside the house because he knew the family.”
According to the complaint, the person who lived in the Chalan Kanoa residence moved out in September 2024. When her daughter checked the house on Dec. 15, 2024, she discovered that it had been burglarized.
