STUDENTS of the Fujian Quanzhou Brilliant Advancement Education institution were the special guests of 500 Sails on Saturday, Jan. 18, as part of a collaboration with Agape Christian School.
ACS is the visiting Chinese students’ host school while they are on island, ACS Principal Jimeian Pang said.
The 19 students are from 6 to 15 years old. They arrived on Saipan on Jan. 17 and will leave on Jan. 27.
Pang said they are here for cultural and social development.
“Their institution trains students to be independent [individuals] with good character, social and emotional well-being, and the skills to deal with life,” Pang said. “This school teaches them everything, especially character building.”
They spent their first day on Saipan by taking a scenic tour of Marpi, where they visited Bird Island, Banzai Cliff, and other tourist spots.
At 500 Sails’ Guma Sakman in Susupe, they enjoyed lagoon rides on canoes and learned coconut leaf weaving from Master Navigator Mario Benito.
On Monday, the students were scheduled to visit Managaha and participate in activities such as parasailing, banana boat rides, and more.
They will take some classes at ACS, including ukulele and sports. In addition, they will visit the local museum, spend a day at Saipan World Resort’s water park, and go shopping.
Pang said as part of their learning experience, the students will also have to budget their own personal shopping funds.
Pang said the participants’ parents covered the cost of the trip, adding that the students will stay at Discovery Hotel Saipan until Jan. 25, when they will move to Saipan World Resort.
