RANDY Asanuma threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and violated a temporary restraining order, according to a complaint filed against him.
Asanuma, 52, was charged with contempt of court and disturbing the peace.
Superior Court Associate Judge Lillian Tenorio imposed a $3,000 cash bail on Asanuma at a bail hearing on Jan. 15, 2025.
At the hearing, Asanuma was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
After the hearing, Asanuma was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. and for an arraignment on Feb. 3 at 9 a.m.
According to the complaint against Asanuma, his former girlfriend called the police on Jan. 9, 2025, because she feared that Asanuma was going “to come to her residence and cause a problem with her and her children.”
She told police that she had broken up with Asanuma on Jan. 6, 2025, but since then he had constantly bothered her via text messages.
One of text messages, which were in Palauan, stated that he was going to kill her and then kill himself, police said. She said she feared for her safety and told police that Asanuma was trying to find ways to get back with her.
She said that after breaking up with Asanuma, she saw him standing in her garden, “chopping her plants and killing some in the process.”
On Jan. 10, 2025, Asanuma was served with a temporary restraining order signed by Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio.
On Jan. 13, police learned from the former girlfriend that even after a TRO was served on Asanuma, he had contacted her multiple times using a phone number of one of his relatives. Both calls lasted 13 seconds and no one spoke on the other end of the line, his former girlfriend said.
She said Asanuma contacted her again using a different number. This time, he told her he would come to her residence after work so they could talk. He called again at a later time, but she blocked the call and sought police assistance.
