Governor OKs spending bills for LB, Saipan, Tinian

GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Wednesday signed into law House local bills appropriating gambling revenues for the Legislative Bureau, Saipan programs and projects, and the Tinian gaming commission.

Authored by Rep. Patrick San Nicolas, House Local Bill 23-69 is now Tinian Local Law 23-20. It appropriates $21,259 of the casino license fee collected from Big Investment Group for the personnel of the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission. BIG operates Tinian Diamond Hotel and Casino.

Authored by Rep. Blas Jonathan Attao, H.L.B. 23-67, now Saipan Local Law 23-22, appropriates a total of $209,491 in gambling revenue for the Legislative Bureau.

Rep. Ralph N. Yumul authored H.L.B. 23-68, now S.L.L. 23-23, which appropriates $205,000 in electronic gaming license fee collections for these expenditures:

–$120,000 for the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation’s operations.

–$10,000 for various projects in Precinct 3.

–$75,000 for Department of Public Safety operations.

H.L.B. 23-61, passed by the Rota Legislative Delegation last week, is still under review by the Office of the Attorney General. It proposes to appropriate $155,000 in casino license fee paid by the IH Group for the Rota Casino and Gaming Commission.
