TINIAN Mayor Edwin P. Aldan and the 19th Tinian Municipal Council on Wednesday thanked and honored J.C. Cafe for its outstanding contributions to the island community.
Aldan, Municipal Council Chair Joseph Santos, Vice Chair Ana Marie San Nicolas and Secretary Stevan P. Cabrera awarded plaques of appreciation and gratitude to JC Cafe proprietor Neal Eisgrou.
The Tinian leaders also handed plaques to the restaurant manager, Marie Rose “Lot” Bunao, and staff.
“In recognition of your outstanding contributions and generous donations to various community events, including the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Saipan and Tinian, Tinian’s Annual Hot Pepper Festival, Mes Manamko’ Month and many more,” the mayor’s appreciation plaque states.
The mayor noted that since its establishment in July 1991, J.C. Cafe “has navigated numerous economic challenges, including the unprecedented restrictions due to Covid-19 pandemic and the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yutu.” Despite these obstacles, the mayor said, J.C. Cafe has remained resilient and steadfast for over three decades.
For its part, the Tinian Municipal Council’s Resolution TMC-003 stated that the island “has been fortunate to have businesses that have been operating for a very long time. One well-known, long-standing local business is J.C. Cafe which was founded in 1991.”
According to the resolution, J.C. Cafe has “withstood economically challenging times and continues to operate to this day, thriving for more than three decades. It has established itself as a reputable business and has been known to engage in volunteering and donating time and resources to the island community events/functions.”
Eisgrou, for his part, recognized and appreciated the loyalty and commitment of the restaurant’s long-serving staff, including Bunao who has been serving JC Cafe for 34 years.
Also recognized were J.C. Cafe cooks Romeo Lozada and Rustico Abendanio, both of whom have been with the restaurant for 32 years; night supervisor Jina Ong Sablan, 30 years; accountant Edgar Tirona, 22 years; cashier Marilou Tirona, 20 years; supervisor Isabel Sablan, 16 years; day supervisor Jocelyn Villagomez, 14 years; and service crew member Justell Bunao.
