ON Dec. 15, Annie Crisostomo waved a casual goodbye to her son, John Daniel “JD” Crisostomo Delos Santos, as he headed out of their Koblerville home. She didn’t know it would be the last time she would see him alive.

That evening, Annie learned that her beloved son had become the victim of a hit-and-run incident.

A life cut short

Born on Jan. 15, 1999, JD was just weeks away from his 26th birthday. A towering presence with a gentle heart, he was known in Koblerville for his quiet demeanor and love of basketball. As an alumnus of Saipan Southern High School, he left an impression on classmates and teachers alike with his reserved nature and kind spirit.

The last day

“We just know that he was in the San Antonio area near Afetna Market and heading to the basketball court. He was seen by family members around 9 p.m.,” recalls JD’s aunt, Evelyn Crisostomo, her voice heavy with grief.

Hours later, around 11 p.m. on the road from Pakpak Beach to Koblerville, JD was fatally struck by a Toyota Highlander traveling southbound.

A family in need

While holiday music fills the air and families gather for festive celebrations across the island, the Delos Santos-Crisostomo family faces a different reality. Instead of shopping for Christmas presents, they’re burdened with the unexpected challenge of funding a funeral. JD’s mother Annie, a stay-at-home mom, now faces the unimaginable task of laying her son to rest.

How you can help

Understanding that the holiday season brings its own financial demands, the family is initiating a simple “Dollar Drive.” Every dollar contributed will help give JD the dignified farewell he deserves. Even the smallest donation can make a difference during this difficult time.

JD leaves behind his mother, Annie Crisostomo, one brother, two sisters and a community that will never forget him. While we cannot ease the family’s grief, we can come together as a community to help them through this devastating time.

Un dangkulu na Si Yu’us Ma’åse’ for your support during this difficult time.
