Help design reunion T-shirt of former Saipan Peace Corps volunteers

THE public is invited to participate in a T-shirt design contest for Peace Corps volunteers, with a chance to win a $300 cash prize.

According to a new release, Peace Corp volunteers who served on Saipan from 1966 to 1976 will host a reunion on the island in April 2025. The design contest will create their official commemorative apparel.

The contest is open to all current or former residents of the CNMI around the world, subject to verification. There is no entry fee. Participants must have resided in the CNMI for a minimum of one year and may be required to submit proof of residency.

The contest theme is “Reunion 2025” and is fairly open to interpretation.

“The purpose of the reunion is to see how the islands have changed, to remember friends and experiences and to thank those who gave the volunteers the opportunity to live among the wonderful people of what is now the Commonwealth of the NMI during their years of service,” a news release stated.

According to Jean Olopai, a local representative of the group, the former volunteers “remember a different Marianas.” She said the designs may show “some of the contrasts between then and now.”

Interested participants must register at mvariety.com/peacecorps/.

Participants are required to submit a digital image of their artwork, title, and brief description. Deadline to submit is at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2025.

Submissions must be the original work of the participant, not previously published or exhibited. It must be the participant’s own original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material.
