“SUNNY” Son Hyun topped the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s December tournament at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course on Saturday.
Hyun ability to adjust was her biggest advantage.
On the front nine, Hyun had a rough start, shooting a gross of 46. But she made a few tweaks in the transition to the back nine, and finished with a gross of 41 to hold a gross total of 87. With a handicap of 15, Hyun moved to the front of the line with a net score of 72.
However, Hyun did not claim the December title easily, as she found herself in a three-way tie with Clara Chang and Dol Yamagishi.
Chang finished with a net score of 72 after shooting a gross score of 49 on the front nine and 46 on the back nine, totaling 96. She was aided by a handicap of 24.
Dol Yamagishi, who shot a gross of 48 on the front nine and 51 on the back nine, had a total gross of 99, but her handicap of 27 gave her a net score of 72.
Because the player with the lowest handicap wins in the event of a tie, Hyun, with a handicap of 15, claimed the December title.
