THERE will be no further proceedings against Christa Nafstad Toribiong, who was released Tuesday afternoon, according to the Department of Public Safety.

“Mrs. Toribiong was released around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday…and because Texas has informed DPS that they will not extradite her, no further proceedings will be filed against her,” Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said on Wednesday.

Mrs. Toribiong, a former Palau assistant attorney general, is the wife of former Palau President Johnson Toribiong. She was arrested Monday afternoon at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport on an active arrest warrant in Texas.

The flight that she was on came in from Korea, Variety learned.

“It was learned that she has been residing in Saipan for the last eight months with her husband,” Manacop said.

After arriving on Saipan on Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m., Mrs. Toribiong was arrested by DPS and detained at the Department of Corrections after authorities learned she had an active arrest warrant issued by Grayson County, Texas, for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-firearms.

According to a court document obtained by Variety on Tuesday, Mrs. Toribiong, representing herself, filed in the CNMI Superior Court on Nov.14, 2024, a complaint for divorce against her husband Johnson Toribiong, who was president of Palau from 2009 to 2013.
