THE NMI U17 Men’s National Team suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Indonesia, 0-10, in the Asian Football Confederation U17 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers at Abdullah Al Khalifa Stadium in Salmiya, Kuwait on Friday there.
After a tough 0-19 loss against Australia in their debut match on Wednesday, Kuwait time, the NMI hoped to learn from their mistakes and improve their performance.
But in the first half against Indonesia, the NMI conceded seven goals, with Muhammad Gholy, Muhammad Taher, and Komang Gelgel each scoring twice, and Evanda Florasta adding another, giving Indonesia a 7-0 lead by halftime.
Despite a rough start, the NMI focused on defense in the second half, successfully withstanding most of Indonesia’s attacks but ultimately allowing three more goals, resulting in a 0-10 defeat.
In a media release, the NMI Football Association stated, “In the match against Indonesia, we had a tough start, but the boys found their rhythm toward the end of the first half. In the second half, they did a great job of stopping most of Indonesia’s attacks. It was clear how much effort the boys put in, constantly fighting to win the ball back and keep Indonesia from scoring. The match ended with Indonesia winning 10-0, but [we] believe the boys gained a lot of confidence compared to their first match. Tomorrow [Saturday] is a rest day, and the boys will get ready for their final match of the tournament against the host country, Kuwait [on Sunday]. Thank you all for supporting us throughout this tournament. We’re excited to see the boys give their best in this final match. Let’s go NMI!”
