SAIPAN International School eased past Saipan Southern High School’s junior varsity team, 17-5, in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIBF Interscholastic Basketball League SY24-25 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Friday.
SIS established dominance from the start thanks to their well-rounded roster.
Point guard Euanne Claveria orchestrated SIS’ offensive run by bringing down the ball and finding the right teammate to execute the play. She fed Julie Chavez for the first bucket while Asa Backe took over the highlight reel with three straight makes to give SIS the early lead, 8-0.
SSHS JV played proper defense but lacked the skills needed to finish on the offensive end. Eventually, Mikaenna Nishimura connected a shot followed by a split on the charity line to cut SIS’ lead before going into halftime, 3-10.
Claveria, who delivered two points in the first half, scored two more points at the start of the second half.
With frustration haunting SSHS JV, they started to commit several fouls which sent SIS players to the free throw line for uncontested shots with Kevlie Claveria converting three points while Backe scored two to seal the deal, 17-5.

Marianas High School V blew past their sister team MHS JV, 29-6, while SSHS V outplayed Mount Carmel School, 40-26.
