DEAN Evangelista was arrested for selling methamphetamine on three occasions on Tinian, according to court documents.
Evangelista, 47, was charged with trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, attempts and conspiracies.
The defendant, in the custody of the Department of Corrections, appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Wednesday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Judge Camacho imposed a $75,000 cash bail on Evangelista, who was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen, while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
After the hearing, Judge Camacho remanded Evangelista to the custody of Corrections and ordered him to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. and for an arraignment on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.
According to the complaint against Evangelista, an informer told police that the defendant was selling methamphetamine “worth $50, $100, and above.”
The Tinian Department of Public Safety subsequently conducted a monitored buy/walk operation involving Evangelista, during which an informant purchased methamphetamine from him on Dec. 21, 2022, as well as on Nov. 7 and 8, 2023.
Evangelista sold a total of $250 worth of meth, which was field tested and tested positive for meth, to the informer.
On June 15, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a warrant for Evangelista was executed.
He “admitted to having drugs in the vehicle and provided consent for officers to search. During the search, [an officer] found one small clear Ziploc bag containing crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, one clear straw containing crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, and one clear glass pipe with residue….”
The substance, weighing two grams, was tested and found presumptively positive for methamphetamine, according to court documents.
Evangelista “agreed to cooperate and assist the Department of Public Safety with ongoing drug operations. However, as of this date, [he] has failed to make any contact with [the police] and has not provided the promised cooperation,” court documents stated.
