GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Monday last week appointed retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Edward C. Camacho as the new special assistant for military affairs and chief of the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs.

A former Department of Public Safety commissioner, Camacho will assume the post previously held by Danny I. Aquino, who was terminated by the governor and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang in August. Aquino is an independent Precinct 2 House candidate.

Camacho retired on June 26, 2024 after 43 years of service in the U.S. Army. He served in various locations including Korea, New York, Iraq, Guam, Texas, Kuwait, Hawaii, Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem, the West Bank in Israel, Italy and Okinawa, Japan.

On June 26, 2024, Camacho was awarded the Order of Saint Maurice, Centurion and the Meritorious Service Medal for his 40 years of service as an infantry officer.
