(CHCC) — The Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation proudly announces the successful connection, commissioning, and net metering of Solar Photovoltaic Phase I with the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation. This achievement marks a significant milestone in CHCC’s journey toward renewable energy adoption and sustainable healthcare operations in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,

The Solar PV Phase I system, now providing 162 kW of clean energy to CHCC’s facilities, represents a transformative step in the organization’s green energy initiatives. Designed to enhance energy independence and reduce operational costs, the CHCC solar project is being implemented in multiple phases, underscoring the corporation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and energy resilience.

Building on this success, construction of Solar PV Phase II is already underway. Once completed, Phase II will add an additional 176 kW of power, further advancing CHCC’s sustainability efforts. Looking ahead, funding has been secured for Solar PV Phase III, which will contribute another 176 kW to the corporation’s solar capacity. CHCC plans to release a Request for Proposals for Phase III soon, inviting vendors to participate in this pivotal initiative.

These phased solar installations reflect CHCC’s dedication to integrating renewable energy solutions that address the healthcare needs of the community while delivering economic and environmental benefits. By reducing its carbon footprint and operational costs, CHCC is fostering a sustainable healthcare infrastructure aligned with CNMI’s broader vision for a greener, more energy-resilient future.

Funding details

CHCC’s solar initiatives have been made possible through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Energizing Insular Communities or EIC Grant Program.

• Phase I: Funded in part by CHCC and the EIC Grant awarded directly to CHCC.

• Phase II: Funded through an EIC Grant awarded to the CNMI Governor’s Office, Office of Grants Management, on behalf of CHCC.

• Phase III: Funding secured through another EIC Grant awarded to the CNMI Governor’s Office, Office of Grants Management, for CHCC.

While CHCC spearheaded the development of these grant applications, the awards and procurement processes were managed by the CNMI government.

CHCC extends its sincere appreciation to the Office of the Governor, Office Grants Management, CNMI Energy Division and CUC for spearheading the interconnection and commissioning of the Solar PV Phase I and upcoming PV buildup for CHCC.
