Two Katori Shrine members await the start of the Shinto ceremony at the Saipan Katori Shrine in Garapan in 2023.
THE Japanese Society of the Northern Mariana Islands will host the 2024 Autumn Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Sugar King Park in Garapan from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As is tradition at the annual event, Japanese food stands will feature staples such as takoyaki, yakisoba, matcha, and more.
The JSNMI will also raffle off a flat screen TV, Bluetooth speakers, wireless earbuds, and hotel stays and buffet certificates from Aqua Resort Club and Grandvrio Resort.
There will be game booths at the festival as well.
To purchase tokens for the event, visit Joeten locations in Susupe, Dandan, and Garapan; Himawari; Tokyo Café; Tokyo Mart; Kinpachi Restaurant; Bostonian Bakery; Takagi & Associates; Aqua Resort Club; and Grandvrio Resort.
A “garage sale” of items will also begin at the festival grounds at 5 p.m.
Aside from the Autumn Festival activities, the JSNMI is also hosting priests and staff of the Katori Shrine from Katori, Japan, according to JSNMI member Katsuko Takahashi.
As in the past year, the visiting priests will host a Shinto ceremony at the Saipan Katori Shrine, located on the eastern portion of the Sugar King Park, adjacent to the Manamko’ Center.
