DEAR CNMI Community:
I humbly ask for your attention and awareness as we reflect on the path we have been heading down in recent years.
When individuals are unemployed, their ability to spend is significantly reduced. Without income, they are unable to purchase goods and services, which directly affects businesses. As consumer spending declines, businesses experience reduced revenue, which impacts their ability to sustain operations, pay employees, and invest in future growth. As a result, the overall CNMI economy begins to suffer from the lack of money circulating through it.
This reduction in spending creates a ripple effect throughout the economy. With less business activity, tax revenues generated from sales and income also decline, leaving fewer funds available for government programs and infrastructure. Consequently, the CNMI government may find it more challenging to stimulate economic growth or provide essential support to those in need.
As the CNMI’s economic situation worsens, people become more reserved and cautious with their money, further reducing consumer spending. This creates a domino effect: businesses struggle, more jobs are lost, and the economy spirals downward. This cycle of unemployment, reduced spending, and economic contraction will persist unless we intervene to break the cycle. Solutions like job creation programs, financial support, or incentives to boost spending and investment are crucial to reversing this trend.
As we approach the elections, it’s crucial that we ask our leaders — Republicans, Independents, and Democrats alike — to set aside partisan differences and work together to revitalize our economy and build a stronger future for the CNMI. Our community deserves leaders who can deliver real results. If they can’t rise to the challenge, it’s time to vote for those who can.
Sincerely,
FRANKIE MANGLONA
