CHCC collected their second win in the 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League after cooking up a second-half rally to defeat Docomo, 73-62, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Docomo started with guns blazing, led by Shane Deleon Guerrero, who knocked back two consecutive triples followed by another courtesy of Anthony Diaz.

But the team lost grip as CHCC turned the tides with defensive stops that turned into offensive finishes led by James Phillips and Jack Lizama. At this point, CHCC trailed by just one possession, 14-15.

Deleon Guerrero continued to stand at the frontline of Docomo’s offense as he constantly attacked the rim to draw fouls. However, with Diaz as the only support, fatigue started to show among Docomo’s players. CHCC took advantage with Lizama unleashing his reliable jumper while Josh Sablan chimed in with five points. Teammates John Bigalbal and Sean Apasan added a pair of triples to give their team the lead, 33-27.

In the third quarter, Deleon Guerrero needed time to recover, which made Diaz in charge of the show. He scored 10 straight points, but these were not enough to close the gap. CHCC continued to fire at will with Kevin Leomo and Lizama pushing a 10-point advantage.

Docomo’s biggest run came in the fourth period as Deleon Guerrero regained rhythm to score 12 points, including two and-one plays. But CHCC answered on the other end with Lizama, Leomo, and Apasan leading their team to victory, 73-62.

DFEMS vs CUC

The other game of the night was won by DFEMS, which outlasted CUC, 48-43.

DFEMS’ chemistry came into fruition in the opening half with Joseph Lifoifoi orchestrating the run with 11 points as his team seized a double-digit lead, 30-20.

However, DFEMS suddenly fell into an offensive drought in the third quarter while CUC led by Joe Santos and Gerald Pangelinan rallied and cut the deficit to a two-possession game.

But DFEMS continued to play to their strength using Lifoifoi’s ability to finish at the rim to draw in fouls and eventually secure the win, 48-43.
