U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan congratulated U.S. Delegate-elect Kimberlyn King-Hinds, and pledged to do everything he can to help her make the transition.

A Republican, King-Hinds will be the CNMI’s second delegate and first female delegate. She will succeed Kilili, a Democrat, who did not seek a ninth term.

King-Hinds defeated Edwin Propst, John Delos Reyes Gonzales, James Rayphand and Liana Hofschneider.

In his e-newsletter, Kilili said: “The people have chosen Ms. Kimberlyn King-Hinds to be our next representative in the U.S. Congress. Delegate-elect King-Hinds and I have spoken, and I have pledged to do everything I can to help her make the transition so there is no gap in service to the people of our islands.”

Kilili added, “I want to congratulate everyone the voters chose on Tuesday and thank all who stood for election — win or lose — and offered their service to the Marianas. Lastly, I congratulate the 12,225 citizens who voted in this election. You demonstrated your respect for the principle of self-governance that for so long our people were denied. Let us never forget.”
