According to the Guam Fire Department, a call was received at 11:13 p.m. Wednesday regarding a single-car crash on Route 2A in Hågat by the Inn on the Bay.
“Upon arrival, personnel found one vehicle off the roadway. Rescue personnel initiated extrication of the patient. However, due to injuries sustained, care was terminated by GFD paramedics via medical control,” GFD said in a press release.
Pictures of the scene showed a truck flipped on its side against the trunk of a tree.
“Preliminary reports suggest that the 22-year-old male operator was traveling southbound on Route 2A, when the operator lost control of his vehicle and ran off (the) roadway. The vehicle then collided with a guardrail,” Guam Police Department acting spokesperson Sgt. Paul Tapao said.
The unidentified male operator was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
GPD is investigating the crash and, as of Thursday afternoon, had yet to determine if speed or other factors contributed to the crash.
