A heartfelt community effort brings smiles to Saipan’s students

IN a heartwarming display of community spirit and volunteerism, the Saipan Maga’Haga Lady Eagles Group or SMLEG of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles), led by President Lady Eagle Maria Aileen Arnold, successfully hosted their second annual “Back to School Free Hair Cut” event on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024.

This initiative, held at the Round House of Garapan Central Park, provided free haircuts and school supplies to local students in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The SMLEG launched this meaningful community service last year with the mission of empowering students to start the school year with confidence and readiness. This year’s event was a resounding success, thanks to the selfless contributions of volunteer hairdressers and barbers from various beauty salons across the island. Their dedication and skill brought smiles to the faces of 65 students, ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old. In addition to the free haircuts, students also received essential school supplies prepared by the hosts, ensuring they are well-equipped for the new academic year.

The participating hairdressers and barbers who generously donated their time and expertise included:

• Sharmaine P. Casquero of Mommyla

• Michelle C. Santos of Perfect Image

• Ryan Osian of Saipan Natural Nails Spa

• Ricky L. Lozarito of Saipan Natural Nails Spa

• Kenji Lajara of Creative Beauty Salon

• Rowin Regonas of Creative Beauty Salon

• Remyl Jhan Raymundo of Creative Beauty Salon

• Leonardo Y. Tubig Jr. of Zi Salon

• Lady Eagle Arlene M. Aliorde of Barbie’s Salon

• Eagle Risty Vergara (Freelancer)

To these talented individuals, the SMLEG extends its deepest gratitude. Your volunteerism not only made this event possible but also showcased the true essence of community service.

The SMLEG also recognizes the unwavering support of the Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club, under the leadership of President Eagle Moises Tagle Jr., and Vice President Eagle Crispino Rivera. Their dedication to this cause has been instrumental in its success. Additionally, a special thanks goes out to Rep. Marissa Flores for her generous sponsorship of the venue, ensuring that the event could take place in such a welcoming and accessible location.

This year’s event has once again strengthened the bonds within our community, reminding us all of the power of coming together for a common good. The SMLEG is proud to serve not only the island of Saipan but also looks forward to extending its goodwill to our neighboring islands of Rota and Tinian.

As we continue to build on this spirit of volunteerism, we encourage everyone to stay engaged and spread the positive energy that events like these bring to our island community. Together, we are making a difference, one student at a time.

To God be the glory! Mabuhay ang Agila! (Long Live the Eagle!)
