DOCOMO Pacific on Wednesday opened a new call center in Gualo Rai with 10 telemarketers and a plan to expand it in the next couple of years to create 50 more jobs in the CNMI.
Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez and Special Assistant for Broadband Policy & Development Glen Hunter joined Docomo Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer Christine Baleto in a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking “the beginning of the exciting new chapter of rebuilding our business with people for our people.”
Baleto said the future they have chartered is one “brimming with hope, opportunity and unwavering commitment to our islands.”
She said she is driven by a deep belief that “we are truly better together. Today, that belief comes to life as we launch our newly established call center operations, a symbol of our dedication to bring our customers closer to the heart of our community.”
When they made the decision to open the call center on Saipan, Baleto said the timing could not have been more appropriate because when they heard the “heartbreaking” news about Hyatt Regency Saipan shutting down in June, they saw an opportunity “to embrace those who have the ability to help us rebuild our call center operation.”
Baleto said 50% of their call center workforce are former employees of Hyatt Regency Saipan, “who brought with them not just the experience but a spirit of service that enriches the entire Docomo Pacific team.”
She also thanked those joining Docomo Pacific from other sectors of the workforce to contribute “their unique skills and energy.” These include employees of the enterprise unit, Tech Zone and IT departments. She likewise thanked the CNMI Department of Labor for its “leadership” and Apatang for facilitating a job fair and introducing Docomo officials “to these wonderful individuals who have now joined our Docomo Pacific family.”
Docomo Pacific Brand Manager Brent C. Deleon Guerrero said the ceremony on Wednesday was not just about cutting a ribbon. “It’s about opening the doors to new opportunities, strengthening our connection to our new customers and reaffirming our commitment to the CNMI,” he said.
He said one of the ways they are showing that commitment is by supporting local small businesses because they firmly believe that for growth and success, “we must start at home. Supporting small businesses is vital to our economy, the prosperity and the overall well-being of our community.”
Apatang said he and Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, on behalf of the people of the Commonwealth, thank Docomo Pacific for “opening its doors and creating more opportunity for some of the people who just got unemployed.”
“Now they are employed. Thank you,” he told Baleto.
