MP United Football Club’s U14 team claimed the 14th Pacific Ocean Cup in Japan with a 3-1 record on Sunday.

MPU played well, beating their first three opponents.

Their opening match was against Kitaue Soccer School, which they defeated, 5-2.

Kitaue gave a good fight but MPU was fueled by teamwork with Xavier Camacho, Quido Jambor, Taiga Namai-Scoggins and Landon Springer contributing a goal each.  The opposing team accidently scored in their own goal.

MPU continued to ride the momentum in their next match as they took down Sawada Football Club, 5-1. This time, Xavier Camacho and Quido Jambor led the onslaught with two goals each. Sawada scored in their own goal.

MPU bagged their third straight win by silencing Vivid Blue, 2-0. Landon Pudney scored a goal while Vivid Blue scored in their own goal.

In their fourth and final match, MPU lost to Veluwe Football Shizuoka, 0-4, but still secured the championship trophy with a 3-1-0 win-loss-draw record against Veluwe’s 1-2-0.

After winning the title, MPU coach Martin Jambor posted his thoughts on on social media:

“I am really proud of this MPU team! Every player had played very important roles today! Our boys played way better compared to the previous Pacific Ocean Cup which was hosted last March in Saipan. Thank you very much Coach Leith and Coach Ric for being my left and right hands. Without you I wouldn’t be able to focus today on my coaching only. Amazing teamwork.”

Jambor added, “Thank you parents, sponsors and supporters for all of your support with fundraising! The dream has really came true for our boys! Winning the International tournament AWAY is something which is not happening every day in your life! Our boys will remember this for their entire life without any doubt! Please celebrate in Saipan, CNMI! Cheers!”
