SAVE More earned their fourth win in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 by outplaying the Saipan Tigers, 95-84, at the TSL Sports Complex on Sunday.
Save More’s dominant first-half performance led the team to victory.
During the first eight minutes of the game, each Save More player was a threat on both ends of the court. Mark Malinay and Kristian David led the offense with back-to-back buckets while Bryan Natividad contributed two triples and Jessie Navarro and Kristian Lucero delivered a pair of buckets.
The team excelled on the defensive end as well. Daryll Foronda and Alex Lauron used their height advantage to dominate the boards with rebounds, and turned each successful stop into transition plays that stretched the gap to 50-35 by halftime.
But Save More’s lack of stamina started to show throughout the second half. Saipan Tiger saw this as an opportunity for a comeback and responded with relentless inside attacks orchestrated by Joshua Carlos, Nicandor Abad, and Arnold Palma.
Save More started to defend using their hands rather than their feet with nearly every player in their lineup committing foul after foul, allowing the Saipan Tigers to chip away at the lead from the charity line.
Fortunately for Save More, Foronda’s mid-range jumper remained reliable, and with the support of Lauron and Malinay, they managed to maintain the safe distance to eventually secure the win, 95-84.
In the overall standings, the top two teams are GMP x Yuman and Islander Rent A Car — they still hold an undefeated record with six wins each. Save More is in third place.
In other games, GMP x Yuman routed Triskelion, 120-89; Islander Rent A Car dominated Star Water, 87-71; and Jacob’s Bakeshop trounced Team Underground, 79-58.
