ISLANDER Rent A Car continues to solidify its reputation as one of the top dogs in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 by trouncing Jacob’s Bakeshop, 84-71, at the TSL Sports Complex on Sunday.

It was Islander Rent A Car’s fifth straight win.

Jacob’s Bakeshop found their rhythm early with Emman Bondad taking charge of the first two buckets. Teammates Andrew Sy and Mark Aycardo then joined the fray with a couple of buckets each.

However, their fire was quickly doused by Islander’s pressure defense which forced more misses than makes. Islander then turned trash into gold with a flurry of long ranged shots led by Paolo Yanto with three triples and Frank Ferrer with two to snatch control.

The deficit continued to grow throughout the last 10 minutes of the first half as Islander’s inside approach was just as effective. Jerome Directo caused havoc from within the perimeter with his reliable jumper while Jordan Dinglasan and Jonathan Broncano contributed from underneath the rim to push a double-digit lead, 50-34.

The second period saw Jacob’s Bakeshop mounting a comeback. Gab De Guzman and Jerome Reyes played their hearts out, diving for loose balls and battling for rebounds while Bondad and Aycardo continued to fire at will to outgun Islander in the second half, 37-34.

However, Islander responded with enough force to stay afloat, highlighted by daggering back-to-back threes by Ferrer and Albert Agustin to eventually triumph, 84-71.

Joining the celebration were Saipan Tiger, which outlasted Triskelion, 86-74; and Save More, which outplayed Team Underground, 105-94.
