Herman M. Atalig
BOARD of Education Vice Chair Maisie B. Tenorio issued the following statement Thursday:
“It is with deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation that we announce the resignation of Chairman Herman M. Atalig, SGM (Ret), from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands State Board of Education.
“Chairman Atalig has expressed that serving both his country in the military and the island of Rota has been the greatest honor of his life. His tenure as chairman of the Board, as well as his roles on the Committees for Fiscal, Personnel, and Administration and the Capital Improvement Projects, have allowed him to contribute to our community and the CNMI Public School System in significant and meaningful ways.
“Under his leadership, the Board has navigated numerous challenges and achieved substantial progress. His dedication, commitment, and passion for the betterment of our students and educators have been unparalleled. Chairman Atalig’s values and guidance have been instrumental in ensuring that the best interests of our students and employees were always at the forefront of our decisions.
“Chairman Atalig has dedicated numerous years of his life to PSS, and his impact will be felt for many years to come. His honorable leadership has set a high standard, and it has truly been an honor to serve alongside him.
“As he steps down to prioritize his health, we respect his decision and extend our best wishes for his strength and well-being. Chairman Atalig emphasized that his paramount priorities are to ensure that the BOE members continue on a seamless path in the best interest of our students and employees. He has also made the request to Gov. Arnold I. Palacios that the Commonwealth Election Commission hold a special election to fill his vacancy. We are committed to upholding his vision and continuing the work he has so passionately led.”
