SHERLYN Jones started strong in the new season of the CNMI Women’s Golf Association by winning its June tournament with a net score of 78 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course on Saturday, June 8.
Jones had to deal with adverse weather conditions and difficult pin placements just like the rest of the player, but it was her consistent swings that set her apart. She closed the front nine with a gross of 46 and tweaked her performance on the back nine with a gross of 44 to hold an accumulated gross score of 90. Sporting a handicap of 12, Jones secured the top spot with a net score of 78.
In second place was Terry Guerrero, who scored a gross of 47 on the front nine, but lost her touch on the back nine, scoring a gross of 53 for a total gross score of 100. However, her 17 handicap propelled her to second place with a net score of 83.
Coming in third was Lou Kim. She struggled to find her grip on the front nine, ending with a gross of 51. However, she recovered on the back nine, scoring a gross of 48 to finish with a gross total of 99. Supported by a handicap of 15, Kim secured third-place with a net score of 84.
