YAP, FSM (Yap Visitors Bureau) — The distinctive culture and traditions of Yap will be on display at the upcoming 3rd Micronesia Expo in Chuuk. This annual Expo will run from July 22-26, 2024, and is designed celebrate the rich culture and heritage of all states that comprise the Federated States of Micronesia. The Yap Visitors Bureau is spearheading coordination activities and participation in the Expo and a strong delegation of 40 people will be travelling to Chuuk soon to represent Yap.
Yapese cultural performances and demonstrations will take place throughout the Expo, with the afternoon of July 24 at the Cultural Village venue being designated Yap Day. During this period attendees will be treated to traditional dances or churus by the dance group from Rumung. Members from the Yapese women’s groups NIWA and YWA, and The Tropical Touch Souvenir Shop will showcase and sell Yapese handicrafts, as well as locally produced food and drink items. They will also provide live demonstrations on weaving and craft making, and traditional Yapese tattoo designs and tattooing will be highlighted.
