BLACK 8 Rack N’ Roll kicked off the new season of the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League by defeating the Black 8 Ideal Signs Rustlers, 9-4, during their debut match in the Tuesday division at the Black 8 Pool Bar.
Rack N’ Roll found their groove in the opening Singles 8-Ball match with Randy Sablan acting as the sparkplug for the team by beating Robert Sanciangco with only one ball left on the table. Julian Reyes and John Reyes yielded similar results as they left their respective opponents with one ball left. However, Ideal Signs’ Toto Bigcas took down Rack N’ Roll’s Chris Camacho by two balls to prevent a sweep, 1-3.
Rack N’ Roll also worked well in pairs as Camacho and Sablan, along with John and Julian Reyes, earned their first sweep of the season by claiming both games of the Partner’s 8-Ball match to extend their team’s lead, 5-1.
Halfway through the night, Ideal Signs started to build momentum as Rowel “Cobra” Mariano triumphed over Sablan by five balls while Bigcas bested Julian to split the second Singles 8-Ball match, 2-2. Another split ensued in the next Partner’s 8-Ball match, 1-1.
But Ideal Signs’ attempt at a comeback was foiled by Rack N’ Roll, which claimed the third Partner’s 8-Ball game to secure the first win of the season, 9-4.

Sharks vs Fighters
For their part, the Last Shot Hobbies Sharks outplayed the Last Shot Fighters, 8-5.
Initially, neither team could establish control of the pace as the first two matches were split, 3-3. However, in the second round of the Singles 8-Ball match, the Sharks’ Maverick Espinosa won by five balls while teammates Gerald Cubal and Marc Brian Nelvis dispatched their respective opponents to collect three consecutive wins before the Fighters snatched the fourth game to deny a sweep, 4-6.
Despite the Fighters living up to their name, their fate was sealed after a split in the second Partner’s 8-Ball match. The Sharks then bagged the third and final Partner’s 8-Ball match to seal the deal, 8-5.
Also earning a win were the Last Shot 8 Ball Shooters who slipped past the Last Shot Rebels, 7-6.
