Voting ongoing in Marianas Commuter Terminal Art Contest

THE Marianas Commuter Terminal Art Contest organizers are calling on the public to help beautify the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.

Earlier this year, the Commonwealth Ports Authority and Hong Ye Rental & Construction solicited entries to the art contest, which aims to “celebrate the rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty of our islands.”

Fifty paintings have been submitted, but only nine will move on to the next round of selection. Marianas Variety will provide the printing service to reproduce the artwork for the commuter terminal.

The official voting website hosts all the entries, which display the scenic landscapes of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, as well as the cultural and historical portraits of the CNMI.

According to a media release, a public voting system will be used to select nine paintings that will move on to the next round. Once the nine are selected, the CPA board of directors will make the final decision on which art to feature in the commuter terminal. Public voting has been ongoing since May 30, 2024, and will conclude on June 30, 2024. Anyone in the CNMI, Guam, and the United States can vote for the best artwork in each category.

“This was an opportunity for CPA to get the public involved and showcase the CNMI’s artistic talent,” said Leo Tudela, CPA executive director. “It will hopefully make the CNMI proud to know that our own community was included in the beautification of the terminal for all inter-island travelers to enjoy.  CPA has no direct benefit in this process. It is to the advantage of the entire CNMI.”
