HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — In celebration of 70 years, the Filipino Community of Guam, along with the Philippine Consulate and the Guam Visitors Bureau, is gearing up to throw its largest outdoor event, Pista Sa Nayon.

A celebration honoring Filipino heritage and the spirit of community, Pista Sa Nayon is a cultural festival. It will feature local talent, Filipino cuisine, traditional art and culture.

“Pista Sa Nayon, aka Fiesta in the Village, is to celebrate the Filipino Community of Guam’s 70th anniversary. The FCG (has been) a nonprofit organization in Guam since 1954. We have contributed to our island of Guam in so many ways through beautification, assisting those in need in times of calamity and through civic and culture contributions. PSN is our way of giving back to our community after 70 years. The event is for everyone to celebrate. Bring your children, family, friends, neighbors and everyone. As the Filipino Community of Guam celebrates 70 years of giving back to Guam, we also segue into the 80th Guam Liberation Day celebration. It will be an event with a lot of fun, fulfillment, enjoyment and entertainment. You will not want to miss this one!” Pat Luces, president of the FCG, said.

There will also be a food-tasting competition, singing contest, games and entertainment with special appearances by Filipino celebrities.

“Everyone will have the opportunity to see and experience Filipino food, culture, traditions and games from the Philippines. Joining our event are many of our local food trucks, food vendors, craft gift and jewelry stands. Families will have the opportunity to pet miniature goats, colored silky chickens, regular and lion head rabbits and ducks, get on…carabao rides and other carnival rides. We will have the rock climber and many other mini carnival games, (and) we will have large cash raffle prizes,” Luces said. “We will have local Filipino entertainers. We will also have popular Filipino (artists) coming to Guam. Inigo Pascual and Sheryn Regis will provide a great show for our participants. Other Philippine celebrities include Maricar Aragon, Prinsipe Makata and Vhize Nhegra. They will be entertaining at our event.”

The free event will take place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park, also known as Ypao Beach.
