THE White Sox bagged their second win of the season by trouncing the Blue Sharks, 25-9, in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Friday.
Both teams played aggressively with White Sox’s JJ Laniyo and Blue Sharks’ Cartfield Sablan earning an RBI each for a 1-1 deadlock after one complete inning.
But in the top of the second, the White Sox scored four more runs thanks to Laniyo’s two-RBI single and Clint Quitugua and Jerome Delos Santos’s pair of RBI singles to seize the lead, 5-1.
In the next two innings, the White Sox continued to stretch the deficit by squeezing in two more runs. The Blue Shark had few scoring opportunities and were unable to get out of the gutter as they trailed 1-7.
In the top of the fifth, the White Sox attempted to end the ball game early via 10-run rule by capitalizing off defensive errors to notch seven more runs.
But the White Sox also committed several infield errors which allowed the Blue Sharks to score six runs and maintain a single-digit distance, 7-14.
In the top of the sixth, the White Sox’s Delos Santos contributed two more runs and earned another RBI along the way while the Blue Sharks answered with a single run in the bottom to trail, 8-15.
The White Sox managed to secure the victory with nine more runs in the top of the seventh and final inning, highlighted by Laniyo and Derek Sasamoto, who had three and two RBIs, respectively, as their team regained a double-digit advantage. The Blue Sharks tried to stay alive during their final turn at bat, but they could only bring in one run before the White Sox snagged the three outs needed to seal the deal, 25-9.
