Detective Sergeant Jason Ford from the Australian Federal Police, 2nd right, hands a TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer to Department of Public Safety Commissioner Anthony I. Macaranas.

(DPS) — On May 30, 2024, Detective Sergeant Jason Ford from the Australian Federal Police presented the CNMI Department of Public Safety with a TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer. The device was acquired through collaboration with the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and the Pacific Transnational Crime Network.

The TruNarc analyzer can identify over 530 substances, including narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and analgesics, in a matter of seconds using lab-proven spectroscopy. This would increase officers’ capabilities in combatting illegal narcotics or substances.

DPS would like to thank the Australian Federal Police, the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and the Pacific Transnational Crime Network for the donation of this device worth approximately $40,000.
