Boots to Business training event set for June 4

(SBDC) — The CNMI Small Business Development Center Network is calling on all veterans and military service men and women who are interested in starting a business or expanding their existing one.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the CNMI SBDC will be partnering with the U.S. Small Business Administration to bring “Boots to Business,” an in-person training opportunity open to Service members including National Guard and Reservists, and/or their military spouses who are interested in honing in on their entrepreneurial skills.

The eight-hour training event, designed to provide participants with an overview of business ownership, is part of the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program. The training event will be hosted in the Napu Room of the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio, Saipan.

The training session will be presented by Dennis Kwak, director of the Veterans Business Outreach Center of the Pacific out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Key topics to be covered include:

• An Introduction to Business Ownership

• Basics of Opportunity Recognition

• Understanding Markets & Your Competitive Space

• The Economics of Small Business Start-Up

• Legal Considerations for Veteran-owned Small Businesses

• An Introduction to Business Planning

The presentation will allow for additional discussion on financing your venture, the sharing of resources to support your efforts, and will also present an opportunity for participants to have a one-on-one discussion with visiting presenter Dennis Kwak.

Recognizing the work of theveteran community, Nadine C. Deleon Guerrero, network director of the CNMI SBDC, urges all Service men and women and/or their spouses to attend this rare no-cost training opportunity.

“We are grateful to our partners from the SBA in allowing us to tap into their resources to maximize in our efforts in presenting economic opportunities for such an important community base within our Commonwealth,” she said. “We  encourage  our  veterans  to  take  full  advantage  of  this  opportunity and to sign up to gain invaluable knowledge from our experts who will be onsite to provide guidance and answer questions they may have related to  the  programs  available  under  the  Small  Business  Administration  that  can  help  them  succeed  in their upcoming business ventures.”
