Heman Addy of the 670 Rollers gathers for the three-point shot against Madflex in a Pokka Cup 2024 game at the Ada gym.
THE 670 Rollers advanced to the championship round of the Pikka Cup 2024 on Wednesday by eliminating Team Marianas in a playoff game, 81-45, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The 670 Rollers’ biggest strength was their variety of skilled players coming on and off the bench. They emphasized great ball movements to create shot opportunities within the perimeter, and were led by Marc Tengco and Elijah Ye who delivered six points each.
Although Team Marianas struggled to get open looks, their towering center Azzy Fatialofa performed well in the first quarter and scored nine points.
Unfortunately, the lack of offensive support led to missed shots and turnovers, which allowed the 670 Rollers easy fastbreak buckets on the other end to hold a comfortable lead, 20-11.
Team Marianas continued to play catch throughout the next two periods of the game.
In the second quarter, Fatialofa remained the biggest threat from underneath the board. However, fatigue soon kicked in as the game progressed. Teammate Kaia Travilla stepped up to the plate and converted eight points while Michelle Kautz and Yasmeen Younis drained a couple of shots each.
But despite their efforts, the 670 Rollers’ margin only grew larger by the end of the third quarter, 59-35.
The 670 Rollers’ bench had their fair share of action in the fourth and final quarter with James Matsumoto Jr. and Heman Addy adding range with a pair of triples while Enzo Sasamoto, Jeff Pineda, and Ionne Camacho contributed a pair of points each to seal the deal, 81-45.
In the championship round, the 670 Rollers will go up against Madflex, which trounced Bridge Capital Prospects, 70-46, on Tuesday.
