Mobil Oil Marianas on Beach Road in Garapan displays its prices on Tuesday.
AFTER a series of fuel price hikes over the last two months, Mobil Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas reduced their gasoline prices by 10 cents and diesel price by 20 cents on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
The regular gasoline price on Saipan went down to $5.56 a gallon from $5.66 a gallon, the premium gas price to $6.01 a gallon from $6.11 a gallon, and the diesel price to $5.73 a gallon from $5.93 a gallon.
Tinian Fuel Services and Calvo Enterprises on Rota had not implemented Tuesday’s price rollback as of Wednesday morning.
The regular gas price on Tinian was $7.54 a gallon, and the diesel price was $7.88 a gallon.
On Rota, the regular gas price was $7.04 a gallon while the diesel price was still $10.17 a gallon.
Sid Kani, 71 and a retiree on Saipan, said the fuel price rollback is good for the consumers especially in these times of economic hardship. He said he spends $50 a week on his car’s gasoline. He typically drives to take his grandchildren to stores and run other family errands, such as handling their utility bill payments.
According to Reuters, oil prices fell in Asian trade on Wednesday “as industry data showed a pile-up in crude and fuel inventories in the U.S., a sign of weak demand, and cautious supply expectations emerged ahead of an OPEC+ policy meeting next month.”
“Brent crude oil futures fell 57 cents, or 0.69%, to $82.59 a barrel by 0645 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 53 cents, or 0.68%, to $77.85 a barrel,” Reuters added.
