
(JKPL) — Mark your calendars for this summer’s reading program: Adventures begin at your library!
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is excited to bring you a world of activities, programs, and reading challenges. Activities include a Reading Challenge, STEM-related activities, arts and crafts, and presentations from community partners. The program is set for June 11 to 28, 2024. The teen program will run from July 16 to 26. Seating is limited! Registration runs from Tuesday, May 14, 2024, to Friday, May 31, 2024, or until spots are filled. Registrants must have a valid library card and no library fines.
JKPL’s summer schedule:
• Session A: Ages 6 – 8 (Tuesday to Friday, June 11 to 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
• Session B: Ages 9 – 12 (Tuesday to Friday, June 11 to 28, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
• Teens: Ages 13-18 (Tuesday to Friday, July 16 to 26, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
• Adults: 18 and up (Tuesday to Friday, June 11 to 28)
The Children’s Summer Reading Program is open to patrons ages 6-12 with valid library cards. For many pre-readers and their families, JKPL offers free access to age-appropriate programs, resources, and expertise to the community. The Early Literacy Summer Reading Program is available for parents or guardians to include their youngest children starting with newborns from birth to age 5. Participants will receive an early literacy activity log, which will need to be completed to earn an awesome prize.
Teens ages 13 and up can participate in the summer reading program. Participants will receive online reading logs accessible daily. The reader completing the most books will receive an extra reward! Participants can join the “I Love My Joeten-Kiyu Public Library” essay contest. JKPL staff will vote on entry winners, who will receive special prizes.
Teen JKPL summer schedule is from Tuesday to Friday, July 16 to 26, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For adults ages 18 and up, JKPL has packets to go! For three weeks, activities include a reading challenge, arts and crafts, presentations from organizations and community partners, book bingo, computer classes, and a recommended book corner.
Lastly, get excited for JKPL’s annual Outreach Summer Library Program. The library’s dedicated Bookmobile and Outreach team is gearing up to provide a high-quality summer reading program all over the island. The Bookmobile will visit many places around the island.
