THE Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council honored two former members with commemorative resolutions at its Chalan Kanoa office on Friday, May 3.
The former council members were David Igitol, who passed away in October of last year, and Jose Sanchez, who passed away in February of this year.
Joining council members Marian Tudela, Antonia Tudela and Carmen Pangelinan were the honorees’ families.
Igitol was a member of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council from January 1990 to January 2000.
He was also the chief of finance at the CNMI Department of Finance, an advisor for Tasi Tours and its general manager, a member of the Amigos Golf Club, and was the first president of the Saipan Major League Baseball Association.
He was a 45-year member of the Saipan Rotary Club.
For his part, Sanchez was a member of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council from January 1996 to January 1998, and served as its secretary.
He held various positions in the Trust Territory government from 1970 to 1987, and worked for the CNMI government from 1987 until he retired in 2013.
The families of Igitol and Sanchez were grateful for the honor.
“The resolution not only celebrates our late father’s accomplishments but also reflects the values and principles he held dear,” said Daisy Igitol Ngiraked, Igitol’s daughter. “Your recognition has brought us comfort in this difficult time and serves as a source of pride for all the things our father stood for,” she told the council.
Jay Sanchez, son of the honoree, said: “Be it public service, the church, or sports, my dad was an avid participant when it came to helping with the community. It’s an honor to share this honor with the Igitol family.”
