Hopwood off to a dominant start in boys middle school soccer

HOPWOOD Middle School 1 bagged two wins in the middle school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League SY23-24, which kicked off last week at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

In its first game Tuesday, Hopwood 1 crushed Chacha Ocean View Middle School, 18-1.

The HMS players’ wide variety of skills were put to use as they filled the first half with a series of goals.

Joshua Lizama started the onslaught with back-to-back goals at the 5th and 8th minute marks while Izaiah Tenorio followed up with a hat-trick, sinking three consecutive goals to further extend their lead, 5-0.

Although COVMS’ Justo Quitugua attempted to stop the bleeding by scoring the team’s first goal, it was quickly overshadowed by Mayten Pino’s two goals that kept HMS afloat, 7-1.

HMS continued to thrive as they silenced COVMS while adding 11 more goals to seal the win, 18-1.

HMS had a tougher time acquiring their second win, but they still delivered against Tanapag Middle School, 5-0.

Kian Estolas scored HMS’ first goal at the 5th minute mark in the first half. In the second half, his team delivered four more goals led by Izaiah Tenorio with two, and Mayten Pino and Andrew Borlongan scoring one each.
